Portland Harbor, ME
To drill and blast 10 feet of rock under 60 feet of water in the oil terminal berth to allow access for larger tankers with more oil.
Underwater blasting is only permitted in the winter, as fish have migrated from the harbor. The depth of the water, proximity to the tank farm and vessel unloading facility, 10'-to-12' tides, 28 degree water temperatures, periodic wake from passing vessels, winter storms and constant icing were all challenges for working on the barge.
Drilling and blasting proceeded successfully.
Six days a week, 12 hours a day, January through April.
Working with other experienced marine contractors and a sophisticated customer. Maximizes the results from teamwork.
