Maine Drilling & Blasting began the transition to employee ownership in 2004, resulting in progressively greater individual responsibility in the work being produced. We work with the unity of a family and the determination of business owners.

Maine Drilling & Blasting is the leading provider of drilling, blasting and related specialty services in the United States, and one of the largest of its kind in North America. With the controlled use of explosives, we drill and blast rock to fashion foundations for homes, business developments and bridges, carves out roadways, mine raw materials for concrete and asphalt, divert rivers and streams, prepare the earth for the construction of hydroelectric projects, pipelines and wind towers, create the holes in which to set utility poles and even sculpt ski slopes.

Maine Drilling & Blasting is currently registered to drill and blast in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and West Virginia. While we are one of the largest drilling and blasting firms, we are firmly grounded and focused in our local regions to support local service.

Like the American bison that represents us, we're still going strong, having earned our reputation as a Breed Apart in the industry, and as one of the safest and most experienced blasting and drilling companies in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic areas. MD&B provides much more than just a paycheck. As employee-owners, with a stake in the success of the Company, our goal is to attract, develop, reward, and retain the best workforce in the industry. Our benefits and total rewards package go a long way toward meeting that goal.

As a 51% Employee-Owned company, we provide a unique array of benefits, including two retirement plans (Employer-contributed Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), and 401(k) Plan). In addition, we offer Health/Dental/Vision plans; employer-paid Life Insurance; additional Life Insurance; and optional Short and Long-term disability coverage.

Benefits / Training & Development

Health Plan

Maine Drilling & Blasting offers Health and Dental coverage for eligible employees and their families through Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, with a company contribution of over 2/3 of the total premium cost. Employees may elect Blue View Vision coverage as well. We also offer a Wellness Program, where employees can gain discounted premium rates.

Life Insurance

MD&B provides company-paid life insurance to eligible employees. Additional coverage (including coverage for spouses and dependents) may be purchased, as well.

Short-Term Disability/Long-Term Disability Coverages

MDB offers affordable STD and LTD coverage to all employees.

Retirement

Only 3% of companies in the US offer more than one retirement plan - we offer two! The Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), with employer contribution, along with a 401(k) Plan.

Earned Time Off

For eligible employees, MD&B provides time off for Holidays, Vacation, Sick Days, Bereavement, and Jury Duty.

Volunteer Time Off

MD&B encourages our employees to become involved in their communities, lending their voluntary support to programs that positively impact the quality of life within these communities. Beginning January 1, 2019, Maine Drilling & Blasting added a volunteer time off program (VTO) to our list of employee benefits.

Reimbursement Programs

Field Employees may qualify for daily per diem truck days, overnight per diem, annual PPE allowance (safety boots, gloves, rain gear, etc.), tool allowances and uniform service for mechanics, and prescription safety glasses allowance.

MD&B also provides tuition reimbursement programs, referral bonus programs, Job-of-the-Month awards, Driver-of-the-Month, Administrative Employee-of-the-Month, Mechanic-of-the-Month, and safety incentives and awards programs to reward consistent efforts of our employees in maintaining our high safety standards.

Training

Training is at the core of developing and building our strength as a company and is one of the greatest investments we make. On the Safety front, the Company provides MSHA and OSHA training, daily, monthly, and company-wide annual safety meetings.

For Skilled Craft, we provide Driller trainee mentoring and certification programs, Blaster Training and Certification, and CDL-Hazmat internal driver qualification instruction and certifications.

MD&B also provides training programs for college interns through our Advanced Summer Help program; for new college operational hires, through our Construction Superintendent Trainee program; and Leadership Development programs for managers and executives, including one-on-one coaching and mentoring programs.
